Tiivistelmä
This thesis examines the stress factors encountered by cabin crew members and pilots, with most focus on shift work. The topic is important because it affects both the individual and their well-being and thereby contributes to safety as well.

The aim of the study was to find out about the effects of stress factors such as shift work on the human body and mind, and to find ways to support recovery and well-being. The impact of stressful situations and noise was raised in the thesis as well.

To support the theoretical information, a survey was conducted, which was targeted at cabin crew members and pilots. 92 people responded to the survey. The survey showed that the stress factors identified in the thesis were indeed perceived as such by those working in the field. The answers received supported the theoretical information. Some differences were found between different categories such as work position, years of work experience or long-haul / short-haul traffic.

The conclusion of the survey is that there is room for improvement when it comes to well-being and satisfaction of cabin crew and pilots. They could most likely be increased by actions taken in co-operation by both the individual and the employer and it would most likely benefit both.'

The thesis and its survey results could point out areas for actions to improve well-being at work for cabin crew and pilots. Or it could increase information about actions that shift workers can take to influence their own well-being. Since the thesis examined the issue at a rather superficial level, it could serve as a base to highlight themes that could be studied in more detail.
