Tiivistelmä
Intravenous cannulation is a routine clinical procedure commonly performed by nurses in patient care. This functional thesis was completed as part of the Bachelor’s in Health Care in Nursing at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, focusing on creating an updated instructional video that demonstrates safe and effective cannulation techniques.
The core objective was to produce a straightforward, concise, practical learning resource established to guide the students through each step of the procedure while helping them build confidence in their clinical skills. The material accentuates the key nursing competencies, including preparing equipment, maintaining aseptic technique, identifying the patient, explaining the procedure, obtaining patient consent, and performing safe cannulation. It also reinforces the importance of prioritizing the patient's safety and post-procedure care.
By combining theoretical knowledge and visual demonstration, the video serves as a comprehensive educational resource. The video models each well-structured sequence to help learners bridge the gap between conceptual understanding and practical application, therefore enabling them to observe correct technique and foresee potential challenges. By presenting structured, understandable elements in the video, it will equip learners to gain knowledge and immediately evaluate their skills.
