Tiivistelmä
This functional thesis was undertaken in order to close the gap in easily accessible and standardized visual learning resources for Central Venous Catheter (CVC) care in nursing education. The main result found was that Nursing students frequently struggle to translate their theoretical understanding of infection control into safe and reliable clinical practice. Making an instructional video that demonstrates the application of evidence-based nursing practices for Central Venous Catheter (CVC) care was the aim of the project. The goal was to increase the knowledge and procedural skills of the nursing students in infection control, aseptic technique, and patient safety.
The thesis employed a literature review as the main research method, bringing together the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and recent scholarly articles on preventing catheter-related infections. The creation of the video was a systematic process that consisted of the pre-production, filming, and post-production phases, each ensuring that the video was accurate from the clinical and educational standpoints.
The video produced becomes a real-life learning tool that is already part of the nursing curriculum at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SEAMK), thus helping the students in developing their skills and covering the theoretical aspect of knowledge through practical application.
