Chronic heart failure is a progressively worsening condition. Support and guidance, along with adherence to self-care, play a huge role in a person's life with heart failure. This thesis aims to explore and gather knowledge on the influence of guidance and patient self-care on disease management and the prevention of exacerbations.
A descriptive literature review was conducted, by using the PubMed and CINAHL Complete databases. Six scientific articles were gathered, including journal articles, literature reviews, and research studies. Articles that best address the research question were selected. The key findings show that increased disease awareness has a significant impact on self-care behaviors, hospitalization, and overall quality of life. Furthermore, professional guidance was found to enhance disease awareness among patients with heart failure.
These findings may have a supportive impact on the development of professional guidance and patient education in the nursing field. It may also promote better adherence to self-care. Improving guidance may also motivate patients to manage their condition more effectively. The subject is broad, and further research is needed from both narrower and broader perspectives to deepen understanding.
