Tiivistelmä
This thesis examines how diversity and inclusion, with a particular focus on neurodiversity, are integrated into the physical working environment of a large Nordic financial corporation, referred to as Company X. The objective was to explore strategies and practical measures that support inclusivity in workplace design and to provide an example for organizations aiming to improve inclusion.
The research had a qualitative approach, combining literature review with interviews of two professionals: a Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and a representative from Facility Management. The interviews addressed strategic importance, practical actions, and development of physical spaces to support diversity and inclusion. Analysis was complemented by theoretical perspectives on leadership, ergonomics, and neurodiversity.
Findings indicate that Company X has embedded diversity and inclusion into its corporate strategy through policies, leadership programs, and neurodiversity guidelines. Physical workspaces are designed to accommodate varied needs via activity-based offices, quiet zones, and gender-neutral facilities. The study concludes that inclusive environments enhance employee well-being and psychological safety, while leadership commitment is critical for sustaining these efforts. Future development should focus on monitoring compliance and strengthening communication during change processes.
