This thesis explores how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh can adapt their Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to meet the growing demands of the e-commerce sector. E-commerce is rapidly expanding in Bangladesh, offering SMEs opportunities for growth but also presenting challenges, particularly in warehouse management. The study investigates key obstacles such as financial limitations, lack of technical skills, and reliance on manual methods, which lead to inefficiencies like inventory errors and delayed deliveries. Semi-structured interviews with owners of three SMEs—Ghorer Bazar, Neofarmer, and Khassfood—provided qualitative data on their current practices, challenges, and potential solutions.
Findings reveal that financial constraints prevent SMEs from adopting advanced technologies, while limited technical expertise hinders efficient use of existing tools. Respondents highlighted practical solutions, including affordable automation tools, employee training programs, and financial support in the form of low-interest loans or grants. Implementing these recommendations could enable SMEs to improve operational efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance customer satisfaction.
The study concludes that affordable and accessible WMS solutions, combined with targeted training, are crucial for empowering SMEs to compete effectively in the e-commerce market. While the research is limited to three SMEs and relies on qualitative interviews, it provides valuable insights and actionable recommendations for improving warehouse management in the context of Bangladesh’s growing e-commerce industry.
