Tiivistelmä
Starting big projects is often overwhelming. It is easy to get lost in the brainstorming and planning. But if a project is never started, it will not exist. This thesis aims to help beginner webcomic creators to pursue their upcoming projects by simplifying what is needed to start a webcomic.
The study of this thesis approaches the most important steps and decisions there are in starting a webcomic and how to avoid procrastination. The topics explored include visual narrative, options for webcomic platforms and the importance of community. The study is based on literature.
In addition to the literature review, the thesis includes a practical part which is used as a springboard to start a webcomic. The short comic created for this thesis works as the prologue for the upcoming fantasy series Tales of Ticalia.
In the end all 25 pages of the comic were sketched and 12 of them were finished and are waiting to be published. Although the study shows that procrastination and imposter syndrome aren’t good for productivity, sometimes unexpected circumstances postpone plans and schedules. In a long project such as a webcomic, adapting to these situations was important to learn.
