This bachelor´s thesis provides the investigation of circular economy in fashion industry, by focusing on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting for Inditex Group. The focus of this research is to analyse how Inditex Group integrates circular economy strategies into their sustainability framework and how they communicate these efforts through ESG reporting. The aim of this work is to highlight Inditex circular economy initiatives, evaluate the company´s current practices and to identify areas of improvement.
The thesis is written in two parts: a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part, applies existing knowledge and research, while the empirical part, is based on data collection and analysis during the study. The theoretical part focuses on sustainability concepts and circular economy. It delivers an overview of environmental challenges and company´s dedication for long-term sustainability goals. The empirical part includes a detailed ESG reporting of Inditex and a comparison between Inditex Group and Mango, two well-known Spanish companies. The comparison expresses on what these two fashion companies have and don’t have in common. The findings of this work provide information on how Inditex has made remarkable progress in integrating circular economy practices within its operations.
As an overall, this thesis report provides insights into how fashion companies can be strongly connected between circular economy strategies and ESG reporting. The results of the work refer for boosting transparency, comparability, and accountability in sustainability interaction. In addition, the thesis has a contribution on understanding how circular economy practices have an important role in growth and long-term value creation in fashion industry.
