The purpose of this development work thesis is to study how grassroots football can serve as a means to promote integration for immigrant in Salo. The choice of theme addresses the increasing need for social inclusion initiatives that help immigrant integrate.
The thesis uses a qualitative research methodology, drawing on information collected through structured interviews, studies, documents, validated literatures, and theories framework. An underlying theory serves as a primary analytical lens, guiding the development of conceptual insights from collected information. By systematically analyzing the interview transcripts, I identify themes and factors connected to motivation, participation, social integration and the sense of belonging within in grassroots football settings, particularly in the context of local football club environments.
The findings indicate that grassroots football provides a natural and inclusive environment to build social connections, improve mutual understanding, and strengthen community relationships. The thesis offers recommendations for the commissioner on using grassroots football as a platform to strengthen integration process for immigrants.
