The maritime industry played a crucial role in global trade and economy, transporting approximately 80% of the world’s goods by volume according to IMO. How ever industry has also faced numerous challenges. This thesis investigates how digitalization effect to cargo ship Officers routine works. Also pointing out one factor that how digitalization effect to handle of ECDIS on board ship. I selected ECDIS here as it is a game changer of digitalization on board ship operations.
This thesis investigates the root causes of digitalization to cargo Officers daily routine works and operation of ECDIS, through a combination of literature review, case studies and online questionnaire. Questionnaire distributed via social media, WhatsApp and Facebook and sent to Cargo Ship Officers and Captains. The study identifies the most common causes to operation of ECDIS and what are the key factors advantages and drawbacks. Studies shows that ECDIS is a vital bridge equipment on board ships. Almost all officers like to have ECDIS onboard.
