Tiivistelmä
This thesis examines the accommodation and travel preferences of young generations with a strong focus on Generation Z. It also compares the traveling behaviour of three generations: Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z.
The aim of this study was to find out the different factors that shape young traveller’s decisions and to provide suggestions to hospitality businesses to better cater their offerings and to meet the preferences of young people.
As a primary data a survey was conducted. The survey was anonymous, and it was shared in different Erasmus groups on WhatsApp. In total 64 response was acquired. Next to the ques-tionnaire a literature review was conducted from different sources on the internet and from books. Furthermore, theoretical frameworks also supported the quantitative data. The following theories were used in this research: Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Consumer behaviour theory and Kotler’s buyer decision-making model. The survey was focusing on Generation Z and data about Millennials and Generation X were conducted through literature.
The findings revealed that the most important factors when choosing an accommodation is af-fordability, safety, cleanliness and digital accessibility. Moreover, the results also showed that Generation Z travellers are highly dependent on the internet when searching for travel destina-tions and their preferences and behaviours differ from previous generations.
Different suggestions were given in the end to help hospitality businesses to attract more young people. Lastly, the study also includes the author’s learning reflection and suggestions for future research.
