Tiivistelmä
This thesis was developed to investigate the possibility of incorporating sustainability and heritage preservation in a boutique hospitality in a study of Kantipur Temple House in Thamel, Kathmandu. The aim of the study was to consider how the hotel has balanced its practice with the environment, culture authenticity, and community involvement while being a business that is sustainable.

The qualitative case study design was employed, which included semi structured interviews, observations and document analysis. Purposing sampling was applied to collect data with the management of the hotels, staff and guests, and analyze them the thematically. Triple Bottom Line (People, Planet, Profit), Sustainable Tourism Development and Stakeholder Theory were the guiding framework used in the study.

The results indicated that Kantipur Temple House can effectively combine sustainable operation and heritage preservation based on local sourcing, traditional Newar architecture, and sustainable functioning including the use of solar energy resources, reduction of waste and minimization of plastic. There was high awareness of environment ethics between employees and management and the guest preferred original cultural experiences to luxury facilities. The study has approved that the concepts of cultural authenticity and sustainability are complementary and result in increased levels of guest satisfaction, brand credibility and community empowerment.

The paper concluded that heritage-based boutique hotels can be used as an example of sustainable urban hospitality in Nepal. Such hotels can play an important role in preserving the environment as well as cultural matters by adopting traditional design, responsible tourism, and community inclusion.
