This thesis examines the development of a practical Master Data Management (MDM) framework for Company X, a mid-sized Finnish enterprise that operates using the Odoo ERP system. As organizations increasingly depend on integrated digital systems, the accuracy, consistency, and accessibility of master data have become essential for operational efficiency and reliable decision-making. The study focuses on identifying the company’s current MDM challenges and proposing an Odoo-based model that supports data
governance, standardization, and long-term data quality improvement. The research was conducted as a qualitative case study. Data was collected through semistructured interviews with key employees from sales, purchasing, administration, and IT. These interviews were complemented by document analysis and observation of Odoo’s
existing configuration. The collected data was analysed thematically to identify recurring
issues, patterns, and gaps in the company’s current data practices. This methodological approach made it possible to connect real organizational challenges with established theoretical concepts in MDM and ERP governance. The findings show that Company X faces significant problems related to inconsistent data standards, unclear ownership, duplicated records, and limited validation mechanisms within
Odoo. Based on these results, the thesis proposes a customized MDM framework that integrates governance roles, standardized data structures, workflow-based approval steps, and continuous data-quality monitoring. The framework demonstrates how Odoo’s modular functions can be configured to support sustainable MDM practices. Overall, the study contributes both academic insight and practical guidance for medium-sized organizations seeking to strengthen data governance and achieve more reliable, integrated ERP operations.
