Tiivistelmä
The aim of this study was to assess the level of digital sustainability awareness and practices among business management students in Finland. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among randomly selected 157 business management students studying in educational institutions in Finland. A pretested, self-administered questionnaire developed by the researcher based on available literature was used for data collection. Data analysis was done through descriptive and inferential statistics using statistical software SPSS.A conceptual framework was design based on the factors as the independent variables and outcomes under dependent variables.
The majority of the respondents were females (56,7 percent). The study conducted revealed a predominance of sampled individuals to be in the age range of 20-24 years. 73 percent of the respondents claimed digital document sharing and reduction of paper usage to be their most familiar digital sustainability practice, reporting an average of six hours spent using digital devices for academic purposes and social media. 78,4 percent of the respondents testified for competence in handling digital tools without peer support. A collective of 59,5 percent were aware of sustainability initiatives, of which only18,9 were actively engaged with these initiatives. However, age, gender and marital status had no considerable effect on the digital sustainability awareness (p>0,05), whereas environmental factors showed a significant effect on digital sustainability awareness (p<0,05).
The study revealed significant awareness on digital sustainability practices among business management students in Finland. To enhance the awareness and practices on digital sustainability among business management students, offering training and workshops, promoting green IT and policies for implementing digital sustainability practices can be done.
