Jean Watson’s theory of person-centred care is adopted in this study. A systematic review was utilized in this study, emphasizing on an in-depth search for relevant studies and evidence-based practices. PRISMA chart was applied to identify 7 primary studies from 249 records.
The results identified four main themes; therapeutic modality, mode of facilitation and nursing role, measured outcomes, challenges faced and recommendation. Sixteen subthemes; group-based, art-based, music-based, digital-based, VR-based, roles as facilitator, educator, supporter, observer, outcomes on QoL, cognition, social engagement and interaction, barriers of training, staffing, resources, adherence and technology. The result of this study iterates that RT can be a useful innovative tool in improving the QoL and care of elderly patients with dementia and nurses play an important role in its implementation.
