Tiivistelmä
This thesis aims to answer the question:” How to develop Jyväskylä airport to serve business travelling abroad better?”. In Jyväskylä when travelling abroad there are generally few options of transportation, but practically all of them go through Helsinki. Theory part discusses situation of Jyväskylä airport and then development of travel in general. Then making comparison on ecological options and how travel from Jyväskylä has been researched in past.
Research is done via quantitative research methods. A questionnaire was sent to businesses in Central-Finland region to find out factors in travel from Jyväskylä to Helsinki airport to abroad. Total of 92 answers
were received and 86 of them were used for this research. Topics in question included background information such as company size, role in company and how often they travel abroad, and topic relevant questions about values and choices in transportation.
Results show that most people who answered still see need of air travel from Jyväskylä airport when travel-
ing on business purposes. Most critical factors were connecting flight times, reliability of flying, cost of flying and connectivity to abroad. Other factors such as ecological and possibility of working while travelling
were seen also important. Trains are in direct competition, but reliability and schedules are often working
against their usage.
In conclusion Jyväskylä airport would seem to be able to get more use on outgoing flights if they can increase number of flights or match better slots at Helsinki-Vantaa airport for connecting flights. Other options to increase travel would be increasing railway traffic capacity.
