Tiivistelmä
This thesis explores the design and creation of a sustainable ceramic utensil holder intended to improve user experience in modern kitchens. The study focuses on the use of locally sourced Kultela red clay as the primary material for exploring sustainable practices in ceramics. By investigating design strategies and low-impact production techniques, this research focuses on creating a ceramic piece that balances aesthetic appeal with practical functionality.
The methodology combines a literature review, semi-structured user interviews, an online survey, material testing, and prototype development to evaluate material efficiency and outcomes of using user-centred design approach. By integrating these elements, the study aims to contribute to the field of small-scale ceramic production and demonstrate how local materials, resource-efficient methods, and user feedback can support development of functional and long-lasting ceramic products.
