Tiivistelmä
The aim of this thesis is to explore the potential of ammonia as a carbon-free fuel for the maritime industry, addressing the issues of air pollution and GHG emissions. The research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review, analysis of relevant data, and a critical evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of ammonia as a marine fuel. Furthermore, the aspects of ammonia storage, transportation arrangements, safety considerations, spills, and accidents, as well as the availability of ammonia in different ports and its implications for vessel operations will be examined. After research author pointed in thesis advantages such as fuel energetical density and storage and challenges such as spills and toxicity, availability raised with the use of ammonia as carbon free fuel in maritime industry, NOx emissions after combustion.
