Tiivistelmä
The study aimed to compare the outcome of manual gait training with robotic gait training for locomotion rehabilitation among adults with chronic incomplete spinal cord injury. The topic was chosen on account of unclear criteria, advantages, and disadvantages of the two approaches. Besides, the preference for one approach over the other in gait rehabilitation is still under debate, which caused confusion for healthcare professionals, especially for those who are new graduates and at the beginning of the competence-developing phase in physiotherapy.

A systematised literature review was conducted to analyse and synthesize the previous research articles. The study evaluated the outcome based on the main components of gait training: lower extremity weight bearing, sensory integration, gait kinematics, and recovery, independence & compensation in walking. The outcome of this study revealed that the robotic gait training had more advantages than the manual gait training in all the components, while the manual gait training was more interactive and beneficial in endurance.

Despite the apparent outcomes in the two interventions, a significant number of research gaps were identified, primarily due to the inconsistency of training protocol and criteria for gait training, insufficient evaluation on the training components, and a lack of financial consideration. The existing evidence suggested further research with standardized training criteria, protocol and, a larger sample size needed to be considered.
