Tiivistelmä
Background: The implementation of technology has greatly benefited the health care industry. With technology, electronic health records were used to document patients' information. Patient information can also be shared securely through the health information exchange, ensuring care coordination. Patients were also monitored using monitoring applications, facilitating continuity of care.
Aim: This study explores the challenges nurses face when adopting eHealth.
Method: A systematic literature review was conducted. Four themes were identified, and subthemes were derived through thematic analysis. The themes are as follows: Technological factors, work-related constraints, inaccurate clinical outcomes, and Personal choice.
Results: It indicated that nurses lacked the appropriate training and digital competence to adopt eHealth. Nurses also identified that its adoption simply means additional work for them. Resources were not available, thereby preventing some nurses from accessing and adopting them. Other nurses had personal reasons for not adopting eHealth.
Conclusion: This study identified the benefits of eHealth, but there are existing challenges to its adoption by nurses. Some solutions require support from health organizations and the government to provide training programs that best fit nurses' specific needs. More research is also encouraged to shed further light on these nurses' challenges and on other healthcare professionals.
