Tiivistelmä
This systematic literature review focused on qualitative research on patients’ experiences after coronary artery bypass (CABG)surgery. The aim of the study was to explore patients’ subjective experience following CABG surgeries, to improve nursing practices for patients’ recovery and rehabilitation. A thematic content analysis was used to organize and interpret the findings during the process of analysing.
Three main themes emerged: emotional adaptation and inter-personal support, challenges in post-operative surgery and lack of information and education. Combing with the theory of Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory and Eriksson’s Theory of Caritative Caring, this study suggests that nursing practices should integrate caritative nursing throughout recovery process, provide structured education and sufficient information to fill up the gaps between healthcare professionals and patients, rebuild patients’ confidence in returning to work, and offer individualized follow-up plans for lifestyle changes.
