Tiivistelmä
Malnutrition in the elderly is not often discussed as it should be. Meanwhile, malnutrition poses a risk to many of these diseases and the overall well-being of the elderly. While some argue this is tailored to the job of dietitians, nurses are more involved in the day-to-day care of the elderly than any other group. This is likely due to a lack of proper information for the nurses.

A systematic literature review was conducted, including seven qualitative articles from 2015 to November 2025, using thematic analysis to further analyse the data. This study covered the experiences of nurses and older people aged 65+ across home care settings, hospital settings, and nursing homes from Singapore, Norway, Sweden, and Iran. The use of the CASP qualitative checklist was used for critical appraisal, answering questions that test the validity of the article. The study seeks to answer the question: What measures can nurses implement to prevent malnutrition in elderly patients?

Results have been themed as (1) seeing nutrition as part of the whole, (2) patient involvement, and (3)interprofessional collaboration. These results are linked to Virginia Henderson`s theory of Nursing Definition. The results are also consistent with a previous study in the background that discusses the lack of information, knowledge, and cognitive ability as major factors contributing to malnutrition in the elderly.
