Childhood obesity has become one of the world's largest public health problems, affecting millions of children and carrying serious physiological, psychological, and social consequences. This study examines the roles nurses play in treating and preventing childhood obesity through a comprehensive review of the literature. A total of 1278 studies were identified in scholarly databases, including PubMed, CINAHL, andEBSCOhost. After screening and applying the inclusion criteria, 10 publications from 2012 to 2023 were included for qualitative synthesis.
To provide a comprehensive view of health promotion and nursing practice, the study's theoretical framework incorporates Pender's Health Promotion Model, the Social Ecological Model, Orem's Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory, and the Family Centred Care Model. The results demonstrate that nurses play a crucial role in helping children adopt healthy lifestyles through behavioral counseling, family engagement, and health education. It has been demonstrated that nurse-led programs that emphasize advocacy, empowerment, and teamwork are the most successful in reducing obesity.
According to the study's findings, enhancing long-term health outcomes and lowering childhood obesity rates need empowering nurses through ongoing education and interdisciplinary cooperation.
