This thesis analyzes the importance of maritime insurance in the global maritime industry. The maritime area is responsible for transporting the majority of world trade and operates in an environment exposed to significant risks, including accidents, environmental damage, technical failures and geopolitical factors. Maritime insurance plays a main role in managing these risks and ensuring financial stability.The objective of this study was to analyse how maritime insurance analyze risk management, which challenges influence insurance practices and how technological developments are changing the insurance overall situation. The study was perfomed using qualitative research methods, including case study analysis, document review and an interview with a small maritime insurance company owner. The results show that maritime insurance is very important for protecting shipowners, cargo interests and other stakeholders from financial losses. Insurance supports operational consistency, enables compliance with international regulations and increases confidence in global trade. The study also identified main challenges such as climate change, cyber risks and increasing regulatory requirements, which are shaping the future of maritime insurance. The thesis concludes that maritime insurance is a fundamental component of the maritime industry. It not only includes financial compensation after incidents but also contributes to safer operations, economic stability and the strength of global supply chains.
