Tiivistelmä
This study examines Zambia’s current aviation policy environment and evaluates its alignment with international green aviation standards, particularly ICAO’s CORSIA framework and the RSB ICAO Sustainability Framework.
Using qualitative methods including document analysis and survey data, the research identifies gaps in regulatory alignment, institutional capacity, emissions monitoring, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) readiness.
The findings reveal that Zambia lacks a dedicated aviation sustainability policy, has limited CORSIA implementation capacity, and possesses no SAF regulatory framework or infrastructure. Despite strong feedstock potential, SAF adoption is not feasible under current conditions.
Recommendations include developing a national green aviation policy, strengthening institutional capacity, establishing an MRV system, and creating SAF incentives. The study contributes baseline knowledge for policymakers and offers a practical roadmap for decarbonizing Zambia’s aviation sector.
