Tiivistelmä
Adolescent drug misuse is still a major public health issue that is frequently linked to underlying mental health. The thesis main topic is how good mental health care interventions can reduce substance use in adolescents.
This research was conducted as a systematic review, in which research used articles that were published between 2015 and 2025. Researchers used different academic databases like Medline and Cinahl and inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied.
The results indicate that the important and effective ways to prevent substance use are comprehensive, multifaced approaches that include school-based, family-related and mental- health programs. Protective factors that can improve adolescents’ use of substances can be early mental-health screening, trauma -informed care, supportive home contexts, positive parent-child communication and school activities.
By offering early screening, counseling, referrals to specialist services, and active involvement in school and community-based programs, nurses play a crucial role in putting these initiatives into effect. To provide comprehensive, preventive treatment that addresses the psychological and social factors of substance use, healthcare providers, families, and educational institutions must work together.
The review findings highlight the need for a comprehensive, integrated strategy that incorporates family involvement, mental health care, and educational initiatives to effectively prevent teenage drug misuse. Healthcare providers can support long-term health and well-being and contribute to lasting reductions in teenage substance use by incorporating evidence-based strategies into everyday practice.
