This thesis research the garbage management process in the port of Gothenburg, how a ship
disposes of waste in the port, reception facilities and how the ships overview the garbage
management process. The aim of the thesis is to get an understanding of the garbage management
process from both the ports view, the vessels and if the process can be improved.
The author has used both qualitative and quantitative research. The material used for this thesis is
from the port’s own web page, communication with the port and interview questions.
With stronger environmental demands on shipping, the garbage management process in an
important part of keeping our oceans clean. The garbage management process in the port of
Gothenburg works well from both the perspective of the port and the vessels, some discrepancies
found regarding static containers. The information in the garbage management plan is informative
and easy to understand. The garbage disposal process is well taught out and works well for the
vessels. This thesis dives deeper into how the process works, location of reception facilities and
port waste tariffs.
