Tiivistelmä
This thesis is conducted as a case study of Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK), to understand how its leadership practices and employee engagement influence its sustainability oriented organizational culture.
The study is guided by one main research question and four sub-questions to understand how sustainability is currently presented at TAMK, how leadership encourages sustainability behaviors, how employees engage with sustainability initiatives, and what improvements could support building a better sustainability oriented organizational culture at TAMK. A mixed method case study approach was used by combining both qualitative and quantitative data gathered from 28 survey responses, an interview with a sustainability expert at TAMK, and topic related literature review. All the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis.
The findings of the study showcase that sustainability is present at TAMK at a strategic level but not fully integrated into daily operations evenly across the organization. Leadership highlights their commitment to sustainability, while employees show strong motivation to engage with sustainability initiatives. Based on the study findings, this thesis provides a development framework as a proposal to enhance the integration of sustainability into daily organizational practices.
