The User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) design play a key role in the success of digital products. User satisfaction, productivity and ease of use are directly improved by good interface design, but poor design can result in frustration and loss of users. This thesis examines how UI/UX affects web development quality by looking at a redesign case. The study examines the Finnish event and ticketing platform Eventti.net, its existing problems in terms of usability and design. Using principles of usability and patterns of interaction design, an interface was designed as a prototype in Figma, and compared with the original interface, with 16 users, in a user survey.
The results revealed that the new interface was rated better in all aspects - perceived usability, legibility, ease of navigation, visual appeal and trustworthiness - than the current interface. Users strongly preferred the new interface, confirming that the layout, hierarchy and interaction design can improve the experience of using the interface. The study gives empirical basis to the practice of user-centered design and how the principles of user-centered design improve the effectiveness and the usability of complex web-based information systems.
