Tiivistelmä
This thesis is a business plan for an Airbnb accommodation service providing genuine Asian and Finnish cuisine experiences in Lapland, Finland. The empirical part of the study was conducted within a pragmatist research philosophy with an overall deductive quantitative approach. Responses were collected by a self-administered online questionnaire, which was disseminated through social media channels that focus on tourism and Asian communities during the period of 13–20 February 2026, resulting in 42 valid responses from respondents who classified themselves as Finnish, Asian, and European. The results were reviewed by means of descriptive frequency statistics and cross-tabulation, according to geographic origin.
These results lend considerable empirical support to the business concept. 95.2% had an interest in the combined Asian-Finnish dining concept, 90.5% gave positive booking intent, and 95.2% said they would be willing to pay a premium on top of accommodation costs for the dining experience. The cross-tabulation showed that Asian tourists had the strongest unconditional booking intention (57.9%), indicating an unmet need for culturally familiar food in the Arctic context, while Finnish respondents had a strong interest but were more price-resistant.
The study shows the idea is commercially and operationally viable. It fills a demonstrable gap in the tourism offering for Lapland, fits perfectly into platform-mediated trust and experience-economy trends, and has massive potential to acquire customers organically through word-of-mouth. Among the main recommendations are developing a Finnish food hygiene certificate, preparing menus based on well-loved South Asian traditions while incorporating halal and vegetarian options, market rates of accommodation at €85–110 per night with dining rates between €18–25 per person, and further suggesting an initial launch plan focused on utilization of Asian community networks and listing visibility via Airbnb.
