Water Footprint of Milk Production : Case Study of a Finnish Farm

Abstract

The following work is an attempt to calculate the water footprint of fresh milk production. The water footprint takes account of not only the quantity of water in the milk, but of all the water that was used and polluted to produce the milk. As the reader will see, the water footprint is a measure that goes deeply in all the processes related to the product considered to give an estimate of the amount of water involved. In this work the reader will get acquainted with the water footprint and will see its application on a practical example from a Finnish dairy farm.
