Förslag till en ekonomiskt hållbar projektmetod : En fallstudie vid Sydweb

Abstract

Skräddarsydda tjänster sköts ofta som projekt, inom webbranschen är så gott som alla slutprodukter resultat av ett projekt. Projekt är tillfälliga arbeten som är unika till en viss mån. I projekt arbetas de förutbestämda resultaten målmedvetet mot. För att projektet inte ska växa okontrollerat måste alla aspekter inom projektet (resurser, tid, budget, kvalitet) kontrolleras med hjälp av en projektmetod. Projektmetoder ger verktyg för att skapa och kontrollera projektets omfattning. Den förser även projektgruppen med regler som ska följas metodiskt för att det önskade slutresultatet uppnås inom de planerade ramarna.

Det specifika företaget vars projektmetod jag kommer att granska är webbyrån SydWeb Ab i Ekenäs. Jag var själv anställd på företaget i 1,5 år som webbutvecklare. Under senaste sex åren har det anställts nya personer och företaget har vuxit sakta men säkert. Projektmetoden har inte hunnit med i utvecklingen och täcker inte företagets behov. Målet för detta examensarbete är att presentera en bas för att utveckla SydWebs projektmetod på längre sikt. Metoderna för att uppnå detta är genom att undersöka olika typer av projektmetoder, granska SydWebs nuvarande projektmetod, utvärdera problemområden inom den aktuella projektmetoden samt analysera projekt vid SydWeb som överskridit sin budget. Min slutsats utgående från analysen var att projekten överskridit sin budget eftersom planeringen varit bristfällig,projektmetoden vid SydWeb motsvarar därför inte företagets behov och måste utvecklas. Examensarbetet fokuserar därför på att presentera en lämplig projektmetod både i teorin och hur metoden kan tillämpas i praktiken på företaget.

Tailored services are often managed as projects. In the web industry, practically all end products are results of a project. Projects are temporary work assignments which are unique to some extent. Within this time span of the project, the project team works determinately to achieve predetermined results. To prevent the project scope from increasing, all aspects of the project (resources, time, budget, quality) needs to be controlled using a project method. Project methods provide tools to create and control the project scope while simultaneously offering rules and guidelines to the project team, so that the desired end result may be achieved within the planned framework.

The specific company whose project method I will review is the web agency SydWeb Oy in Ekenäs. I was employed at the company for 1.5 years as a web developer. During the past six years new employees have been hired causing the company has grown slowly but steadily. The project method does not therefore serve it's purpose anymore as it simply can not meet the needs of the company. The objective of this thesis is to provide the company with a project method to work from, as the method continues to be developed in the long term. The methods I use to achieve this is by examining different types of project methodologies, viewing SydWebs current project method, evaluating problem areas within the current method and by analyzing project at SydWeb which have exceeded their budget. My conclusion was, based on the analysis, that the projects exceeded their budget since the planning for these projects have been inadequate which in turn implies that the project method indeed does not represent the company's needs and needs to be developed. My thesis focuses therefore on presenting an appropriate project method, both in theory along with how the method may be applied in practice.
