Tiivistelmä
Huhmarjärvi and Tervalampi are two lakes situated in the Siuntionjoki Catchment area, Finland. These lakes are shallow and are surrounded by summer cottages and agricultural lands. The agricultural runoffs flow into the lake, and this has resulted in an excessive growth of the vegetation in the lakes. Fishing, swimming and recreational activities are not possible in some parts of the lakes due to eutrophication.
The aim of this project was to analyze the chemical content of the lake water and to determine the concentration of parameters responsible for eutrophication in these lakes. The sample water was tested in the Environmental Engineering Laboratory of Metropolia UAS using various analysis kits for each parameter. The results show that the concentration of phosphorous has increased sharply in both lakes.
In conclusion, it was discovered that the water in these lakes is nutrient enriched and unsuitable for aquatic animals. The excessive growth of vegetation prohibits swimming and even boating in some areas.
