Sateenkaariseniorin puheenvuoro vanhusneuvostoille : kokemustieto yhdenvertaisuuden edistäjänä

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten Tampereen ja Turun vanhusneuvostot kokevat heille suunnatun Sateenkaariseniorin puheenvuoron ja lisäsikö tämä heidän tietouttaan sukupuoli- ja seksuaalivähemmistöistä. Tavoitteenamme oli myös selvittää, millaisena vanhusneuvostot näkevät kokemuskouluttajan antaman tiedon verrattuna teoriatietoon. Työelämäyhteistyökumppani oli Setan Yhdenvertainen vanhuus II- projekti ja projektin vapaaehtoisena kokemuskouluttajana toimiva Sateenkaariseniori. Opinnäytetyön tutkimusote oli määrällinen sekä laadullinen ja sen aineisto hankittiin keväällä 2016 paperisin kyselylomakkein. Kyselylomakkeet olivat määrällisiä, sisältäen kuitenkin avoimia kysymyksiä joita analysoitiin laadullisesti.

Keskeisimpiä tuloksia oli, että Sateenkaariseniorin puheenvuoro lisäsi vanhusneuvostojen jäsenten tietoa seksuaali- ja sukupuolivähemmistöjä koskien. Sateenkaariseniorin puheenvuoro koettiin konkreettisena ja luotettavana. Vanhusneuvostot kokivat että kokemustieto on vaikuttavampaa kuin teoriatieto mutta myös teoriatiedolle nähtiin paikkansa.

Johtopäätöksinä voidaan todeta, että iäkkäille suunnatuissa palveluissa moninaisuuden näkymättömyys on todellista. Jotta yhdenvertaisuus toteutuisi iäkkäille suunnatuissa palveluissa, tarvitaan konkreettista ja ajankohtaista tietoa. Kokemusasiantuntijuus yhdessä teoriatiedon kanssa tuo syvyyttä siihen ymmärrykseen, jota iäkkäille suunnattujen palveluiden kehittämiseksi tarvitaan. Opinnäytetyömme tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää tämän koulutusmuodon kehittämisessä.

The purpose of this thesis was to find out how the Older people’s councils of Tampere and Turku experienced the presentation given to them by an LGBTI senior and did this presentation in fact increase their awareness of the gender and sexual minority issues among seniors.

Our aim was to find out how the Older people’s councils perceive the information provided by the experience trainer compared to theoretical knowledge. The co-operative partner in working life was Seta’s (LGBTI Rights in Finland) Equal Aging II project and the project’s volunteer LGBTI senior who worked as an experience trainer.

The study is both qualitative and quantitative and the data was gathered by using paper questionnaires in Spring 2016. The questionnaire consisted of both open and closed questions that were then analyzed in a qualitative fashion. The most central results are that the presentation given by the LGBTI senior increased awareness on the subject of gender and sexual minorities among the Older people’s councils. The information given by the experience trainer was perceived as concrete and reliable. Even though, the councils felt that the experience based knowledge on the subject was more convincing they also saw the need for theoretical knowledge, as well.

To conclude, it can be said that in the services provided for the seniors, LGBTI issues and other human diversity that makes us who we are, are not taken into consideration sufficiently. For equality to be realised in services provided for the elderly we need concrete and updated information. Experience expertise along with theoretical knowledge brings about genuine in depth understanding which is crucial when developing services for the elderly. The results that our thesis yield can be utilized to develop this form of training.
