Projects for affordable housing are often linked with low profit margins and management problems as over costs and over schedule. The same problems are faced in general projects from the construction industry.
The Lean Construction techniques started to be researched and applied in 1992 as a possible approach to solve the construction industry problems related to waste, profitability, quality, costs and scheduling.
This thesis access how affordable housing projects in South America and Africa applied the lean construction principles and highlight the positive results of the implementation.
As the challenges faced during the implementation of Lean Construction concepts are an important matter, a list of the most common barriers is depicted in this work and recommendations to overcome and diminish the challenges is suggested.
