”Sosionomin rooli vanhustyön kentällä edelleen tuntematon” : Vanhustyöhön suuntautuneiden sosionomien (AMK) työllistyminen

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön kuvaus: Opinnäytetyössäni tarkastelen vanhustyön suuntautumisvaihtoehdosta valmistuneiden sosionomien (AMK) työllistymistä sekä siihen vaikuttaneita tekijöitä. Tuon konkreettisesti esille, millaisiin tehtäviin vanhustyön suuntautumisvaihtoehdosta valmistuneet sosionomit (AMK) ovat työllistyneet. Selvitän työssäni myös vanhustyöhön suuntautuneiden sosionomien (AMK) tyytyväisyyttä vanhustyön erikoistumisopintoihin ja tuon esille opintojen kehittämisideoita. Lisäksi käsittelen, miten erikoistumisopinnoista saatua asiantuntijuutta on päästy hyödyntämään työelämässä.

Teoreettinen ja käsitteellinen esittely: Opinnäytetyöni teoreettinen osuus käsittelee nykyistä sosiaalialan ammattikorkeakoulututkintoa, asiantuntijuuden käsitettä ja sosionomin (AMK) asiantuntijuutta seniori- ja vanhustyössä sekä sosionomia (AMK) suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa vanhustyössä.

Metodologinen esittely: Opinnäytetyössäni on käytetty kvantitatiivista eli määrällistä tutkimusotetta, jossa hyödynnettiin survey-tutkimusta. Tiedonhankintatapana käytin kyselylomaketta. Kyselylomakkeella keräsin tietoa Kemi-Tornion ammattikorkeakoulusta vuosina 2000-2007 vanhustyön suuntautumisvaihtoehdosta valmistuneilta sosionomeilta. Tutkimukseni analyysissä käytin sekä tilastollista analyysimenetelmää, että sisällön analyysiä.

Keskeiset tutkimustulokset: Vanhustyöhön suuntautuneiden sosionomien (AMK) työllistyminen vanhustyöhön on huonoa. Helpottavaa on huomata, että vanhustyöhön suuntautuneet ovat työllistyneet suuntautumisestaan huolimatta laajasti myös muille sosiaalialan alueille. Erikoistumisopintojen sisältöön oltiin pääasiassa tyytyväisiä, mutta kritiikkiä annettiin siitä, ettei koulutus vastaa työelämän tarpeisiin eivätkä vanhustyöhön suuntautuneet sosionomin (AMK) löydä koulutustaan vastaavaa työtä vanhustyöstä.

Johtopäätökset: Vanhustyöhön suuntautuneiden sosionomien (AMK) työelämään sijoittumista tulisi pyrkiä parantamaa. Oppilaitosten tulee panostaa työelämäsuhteiden ylläpitämiseen. Myös koulutusta tulisi kehittää. Kehittämällä sosionomi (AMK) tutkinnon vastaavuutta työnantajien tarpeisiin voidaan osaltaan vaikuttaa sosionomien (AMK) työllistymiseen.

Thesis description: The aim of my thesis is to study the employment of graduates who have specialized into elderly care and the reasons behind the employment itself. I will present the various duties the graduates have been employed into. I will also present the level of satisfaction the graduates of eldercare feel for the specialty studies of elderly care have they studied and I will bring forward some ideas for future development of these studies. I will also discuss how the learned special competence has come into use in the working life.

Theoretical summary: The theoretical part of my thesis deals the current degree of Bachelor of Social Services, the concept of professionalism and the expertise of the bachelor in elderly care and it’s position in elderly care in Finnish society.

Methodological summary: A quantitative method has been used in this thesis, when a survey was conducted. I used a questionnaire as a tool for collecting data. I gathered information from the bachelors of social service who specialized into eldercare and graduated during 2000-2007 from Kemi-Tornio University of Applied sciences. A statistical analysing method and content analysing was used in my thesis.

Main results: The employment rate of bachelors of social services into eldercare is poor. Some relief is brought from the fact that the bachelors of social services who have specialized into elderly care have been employed widely into other fields of social services despite their specialization. The former students were quite satisfied of the contents of the specialty studies. However, some critique was given, that the studies do not respond into the needs of the labour market and the graduates have difficulties finding work in elderly care that corresponds to the acquired degree.

Conclusions: The work placement of the Bachelors of Social Services that has specialized into elderly care should be improved. The university of applied sciences should co-operate more with the working life. The studies should also be improved. By developing the degree to match better the requirements of employers will improve the employment rate of the Bachelors of Social Services.
