High-quality medical instrument and equipment design is important to ensure functionality, quality and aesthetics. Engineers need the right tools to develop new products that exceed requirements increase innovation and reduce costs. This bachelor’s thesis develops a concept and provides an insight into the design process of a new tool – a device that will collect vital physiological data – a portable hi resolution EKG recorder.
The main objectives of this thesis were to prove the concept of a hi resolution EKG recorder and provide a basic knowledge bank for anyone willing to design and manufacture a practical implementation of the tool. These objectives were fulfilled by providing use case scenarios, conducting market research and finally building a functional prototype with focus on both hardware and software architecture.
This bachelor’s thesis sequentially covers the basics of electrocardiogram as well as minimal safety design requirements. Finally, current performance and design limitations of the recorder as well as several improvement ideas are given.
