Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyössämme tutkimme omaishoitajien jaksamisen tukemista Vesannolla. Suoritimme laadullisen tutkimuksen, jossa haastattelimme neljää omaishoitajaa.
The aim of the thesis was to find out how the well-being of caregivers is supported in Vesanto. The qualitative re-search method was applied in this study, in which four caregivers were interviewed. The form of the interwievs was theme interview. The interviewees were chosen from a list which included all the caregivers who were willing to participate in the study. The list was received from the home care of the municipality of Vesanto. The themes for the interview were the well-being of the caregivers, the things that strain the well-being of the caregivers, the things that support the well-being of the caregivers, how the caregivers have felt about the support they have got from the munipalicity of Vesanto and what kind of support they would like to have more. The interviews were recorded digi-tally and destroyed after they were written out. The identities of the interviewees can not be recognised in the the-sis.
According to the study results, the caregivers interviewed in the study were physically and mentally tired. The things that strained the caregivers most were the feeling of being tied to the situation in which they were and the lack of personal time. Two of the interviewees did not have any regular time out. The things that supported the well-being of the caregivers were the support from their families and friends, the support from the homecare of Vesanto and hobbies. The interviewees were mostly satisfied with the support they got from the homecare of Vesanto, but they also stated that the service could be more versatile. For example, carrying the firewood inside. The caregivers also wished for better information about the services and support that they could get from the muni-palicity of Vesanto. Some of the caregivers felt that they had been left alone in the beginning and they had to search the information they needed by themselves. Many of the caregivers interviewed were in a situation in which the person they were taking care of objected to being sent to a care home for the free time of the caregiver. The care-givers wished for a substitute caregiver who could come to the home of the person being taken care of so that they could have some free time. Another thing the caregivers wished for was a support group of caregivers in the same kind of situation. They felt that this kind of support would be beneficial for their well-being.
A topic for further study could be finding out how a support group could increase the well-being of caregivers and what kind of an effect a substitute caregiver has on the well-being of caregivers and the costs of homecare.
