The goal was to gather theoretical and practical knowledge that would help enhance one’s visual storytelling and final output of a scene. The primary focus lay on the use of light to support the story, to create visual mood and atmosphere, to heighten composition and create depth and believability. The information presented here will be of great value to anyone working in the field of visual arts who wants to deepen their understanding of light.

The practical approach involved the process of lighting a digital environment, a carnival scene at night, as part of an online challenge. Each step of the process was covered explaining how decisions taken relate to the findings. Some technical aspects were also covered on rendering, linear workflow, compositing and post processing effects.

Even if the reader should be familiar with many of the things discussed, they might find the Thesis to be helpful for it covers the process as a whole and through its analytical structure should at least awake thoughts on personal ways in approaching one’s work.
