Ohjausvideo on katsottavissa Terveyskylän sivuilla.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique which uses different magnetic fields to form pic-tures of the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body. MRI is suitable for imaging visceral organs and musculosceletar system. In MRI the child is not exposed to radiation. Loud noises of MRI-device, narrow space and separation from the parents may cause fear in the child, which can be eased by sedation. Preparing the child’s knowledge well for the examination can facilitate the examination, when the child is already aware of what is to come.
The purpose of the thesis was to produce a guidance video for child patients coming to magnetic resonance imaging at the KUH Clinical radiology MRI department. The aim of the thesis was to reduce fears, anesthesia and the need for the other sedatives of children during the examination. The aim was also to develop patient guidance through the guidance video.
The thesis includes a report and a product. The planning of the product began with the acquisition of background information from various literature sources and scholarly articles. After applying for and obtaining the research li-cense, the authors produced the screenplay and filmed the video. The product of the thesis was a guidance video, which includes head MRI process for child patient. The video was made using a SLR camera and edited by Shotcut. The video includes head MRI process and examples of other examinations like ankle and stomach examinations. The video can be seen on the website of Terveyskylä. The report deals with child development during toddler and school age and the theory of MRI and MRI with children. The report includes also the process of the thesis and reflection.
In the future the guide can be developed by researching how the video helps children overcome their fears and whether sedation has decreased.
