Tiivistelmä
Suomessa optometrian koulutusta muutetaan vastaamaan kansainvälisiä osaamisvaatimuksia. Koulutusmuutos lisää optometristien silmäterveysosaamista ja mahdollistaa työtehtävien monipuolistamisen. Kehittämistyön aihe on tärkeä, koska kuivasilmäisyys on yleistynyt viime vuosina eri ikäryhmissä ja kuivasilmäpalvelun tarve on kasvanut.
Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantaja on yksityisistä optikkoliikkeistä muodostuvan verkoston hallitus. Optikkoliikeverkostolla on kuivasilmäpalvelu, jonka käyttöä halutaan lisätä. Työn tarkoituksena on kehittää kuivasilmäpalvelun käytettävyyttä ammattilaisten näkökulmasta. Työn tavoite on kuvata palvelumuotoilun prosessi kuivasilmäpalvelun kehittämistyössä. Tavoitteena on myös tuottaa uudistettu kuivasilmäpalvelumalli toimeksiantajan ja optikkoliikeverkoston käyttöön. Kehittämistyön kohderyhmänä on optikkoliikkeiden henkilökunta.
Palvelumuotoiluprosessi jakaantuu viiteen vaiheeseen. Määrittelyvaiheessa selvitettiin palvelun kehittämistarpeita ja haettiin mallia sveitsiläisen yrityksen toimivasta kuivasilmäpalvelusta. Benchmarkingin tuloksena uuden kuivasilmätutkimuksen tietoperustaksi otettiin kansainväliseen tutkimusnäyttöön perustuva kirjallisuuskatsaus. Tutkimusvaiheessa määrällisellä kyselyllä verkoston ammattilaisille (n=43), saatiin tietoa olemassa olevasta kuivasilmäpalvelun käyttöasteesta ja käytön esteistä. Vastaajista suurin osa oli uudenmuotoisen koulutuksen saaneita optometristeja. Suunnitteluvaiheessa toteutettiin työpaja, jossa kehitettiin kuivasilmäpalvelumallia. Työpajaan osallistui yli puolet (n=46) verkoston ammattilaisista. Työpajassa kuvattiin kuivasilmäasiakkaan nykyinen palvelupolku, suunniteltiin uutta palvelupolkua, kuivasilmäpalvelun liiketoimintamallia sekä asiakasviestintää. Tuotantovaiheessa palvelumallia kokeiltiin neljän yhteistyöliikkeen asiakastyössä. Kokeilun tulokset kerättiin näiden optikkoliikkeiden yhteyshenkilöiltä haastatteluilla. Kokeillut kuivasilmätestit antoivat uutta tietoa kuivasilmäisyyden arviointiin. Kokeilu lisäsi myös yhteistyöliikkeiden ymmärrystä asiakkaiden tarpeista. Yhden yhteistyöliikkeen asiakkaat (n=12) vastasivat palautekyselyyn, joka osoitti näiden asiakkaiden arvostavan kuivasilmäisyyteen erikoistunutta palvelua. Arviointivaiheessa kokeilun tulokset arvioitiin verkoston koulutustilanteessa marraskuussa 2018. In years to come, optometric education in Finland will face alterations making it compatible with current international competence demands. This will enhance the eye health competence mastered by optometrists so that they can also be employed in more diversified tasks. The subject matter of this paper is of great relevance, for dry eye problems seem to increase among Finns in varying age groups.
The network of independent Finnish optician enterprises has a dry eye service witch some of the firms have profited from. The purpose of this work was to create a professionally beneficial model. Another major goal was to describe the process of service design when applied to this dry eye service. The end users will be the optometrists employed by the optician enterprises, but the service model will also help the businesses involved.
The service design process entailed five phases. In the definition phase, the development needs for the service were investigated, and a benchmarking model was obtained from a Swiss eye clinic with a dry eye service of their own. The benchmarking delivered also the scientific basis for the paper, and the research literature was chosen as guided by recent research projects conducted in the field in various parts of the world. A questionnaire (n=43) conducted during the research phase delivered information on the level and obstacles of usage of the service currently in use.
A workshop with more than half of the professionals employed by the network present was able to develop the previously used service. Four of the optician enterprises, together with their actual clients, were involved in the production phase. This led to information useful for the assessment of clients and their dry eye needs. The clients of one enterprise (n=12) participated in a post- experiment query, expressing their appreciation of the dry eye service.
The results of the experiment were assessed at a session arranged by the network in November 2018, showing that, in the adoption phase, it will be necessary for the optometrists to share their experiences, and their general competence also needs to be improved. The board of governors received the report in January 2019.
Service design process needs to be applied to development of the dry eye service in the future, with dry eye clients as the focus. Also, the needs of the optometrists and the groups of professionals referring their patients to them will merit further study.
