Tiivistelmä
This research focused on the phenomenon of education export, especially export activities of higher education from Finland to Vietnam. Particularly, this study concentrated on the potentials of the education export business to different Vietnamese client segments. Besides, good and bad sides of education export as well as strategies to overcome hardship arising during the export process were also discussed. The main objective of this thesis is to present information on education export and Finnish education as the potential exporter.
Various viewpoints about the definition of education export were collected and analyzed in the theoretical part. Information on education exchange from both sides – an exporter and importer, was presented to offer a full understanding for the readers. The thesis also yielded an updated process of education export which had been previously studied by professionals in the related field. Additionally, the emphasis was placed on the harmonization and integration of the Finnish education model into the local context in Vietnam.
The empirical study was conducted to generate a relationship between the demand and supply with regards to Finnish education in Vietnam. It was arranged with two research methodologies, qualitative and quantitative method, corresponding with two main theories, namely export readiness and six forci of cross-nation attraction. The results of the study indicated a promising opportunity for Finland in the international education market and demonstrated how the local needs in Vietnam could be fulfilled. The findings generated the answer to the research problem by voicing potential customers’ expectations of and concerns about Finnish education. Simultaneously, the Finnish exporter’s competence and willingness to respond to this global trend were also highlighted.
