The project was carried out to solve a problem scheduling in a restaurant in Helsinki. Not having a robust system to create and communicate work schedules had been a problem for the company. Also manually calculating shift hours was creating discrepancies in payrolls leading to wasting of time and resources to manage these errors. As the company was growing and opening new restaurants every year, the restaurant management identified these problems as critical and needed a solution.
We leveraged our skills as Software Engineering students at Metropolia to help them solve this problem. Using technologies like Nodejs, Postgresql, Reactjs, Redis, we were able to build a web application that automates the calculation and communication of shifts of employees. The solution was able to significantly elevate the experience of creating and managing schedules.
As we got to the minimum viable product, we were able to successfully satisfy the customer with the product. However, there are still improvements that can be made to the product. We will follow the Lean startup methodology to continuously improve the product in the future.
