Tiivistelmä
This thesis focused on improving a product simplification effort that was a part of an ongoing business transformation program in the case company. The simplification effort was not meeting expectations which threatened to undermine the outcomes of the transformation program.
The study was based on qualitative data collection through interviews, workshops and existing documentation. The selected research approach was Design research. First, a Current State Analysis of the simplification effort was conducted and most important focus areas to improve were selected. Then, relevant literature was explored to find ways to improve the focus areas. After that, based on the findings from literature, a proposition to improve the simplification effort was collaboratively developed with relevant stakeholders from the case company. Finally, the proposition was validated in concert with key stakeholders from the case company which led to the final proposal that is the outcome of this thesis.
As the result of the Current State Analysis measurable target metrics were concluded missing from the simplification effort. To solve this issue, key objectives to quantify into measurable target metrics for the simplification effort were defined. In addition, a Performance Management System was developed.
After implementing the Performance Management System the company will be able to measure and continuously improve the simplification effort. This will fortify the business transformation program in the pursuit of fulfilling its stakeholder wants and needs and con-tribute to the case company’s product profitability beyond the program.
