This thesis presents RAdio frequency IdentificatioN (RAIN), a wireless technology that uses radio waves to identify, communicate and track objects.
The goal of this thesis work was to introduce to wireless temperature sensor network with RAIN technology. The thesis work also aimed to indicate the capabilities of this wireless system and encourage further research in the field of RFID. Furthermore, more advance developments of this application are suggested for another study for students at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
The advantages of the system are calrified along with two key components: The smart sensor built as a micro system and RFID (Radio-frequency Identification) embedded reader module. The main purpose of this thesis is to describe how to combine these two different modules based on the same protocol to utilize their application.
Based on this technology, a new approach to measure temperature wirelessly was developed to tackle barriers of wired sensors.
