Taideteosten elinkaari nykytaiteessa

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön aiheena on taideteoksen elinkaari. Käsittelen erityisesti nykytaiteen tuomia uusia haasteita taideteoksen elinkaariajatteluun. Perinteisen restauroinnin rinnalle on nykytaiteessa syntynyt korvattavuuden käsite. Olen poiminut esimerkkejä kirjallisuudesta ja Nykytaiteen museo Kiasman kokoelmista, millä periaatteilla ja kuinka teososia on korvattu. Tähän aiheeseen liittyvät myös kopiot ja toisinnot. Lähtökohtana niille ovat olleet tuhoutuneet tai tuhoutumassa olevat taideteokset.

Uusien taidelajien kuten installaatioiden, esineteosten, performanssien, käsitetaiteen ja nykytaiteen valokuvien syntyminen on johtanut haasteelliseen tilanteeseen. Taiteilijan intentio on saanut korostuneemman aseman. Se on lähtökohtana sekä elinkaariajattelussa että korvattavuudessa. Taiteilijahaastatteluiden tarve on kasvanut taiteilijan intention tallentamiseksi ja monipuolistuneiden materiaalien ja tekniikoiden käyttöönoton myötä.

Käsittelen myös erilaisia säädöksiä, lakeja ja kokoelmapoliittisia ohjelmia, jotka konservaattorit joutuvat ottamaan huomioon ajateltaessa taideteoksen elinkaarta.

The subject of my thesis is the lifespan of works of art. I am dealing especially with the new challenges of lifespan thinking caused by contemporary art. In contemporary art, the new concept of replacement has arisen beside the restoration tradition. I have collected examples from literature and from the collection of The Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma to examine what kind of principles have been used and how pieces of the art work have been replaced. This subject is dealing with copies and replacements originating from the artist. The starting point for them has been decaying or destroyed works of art.

The birth of the new art movements like installations, object art, performances and contemporary photographs has lead to this challenging situation. The intention of the artist has gained more emphasis. The intention is the starting point for the lifespan and replacement of works of art. The need for artist’s interviews has increased in order to preserve the intention and in utilizing of versatile materials and techniques.

I also address different statutes and laws conservators need to apply when considering the lifespan of a work of art.
