Hotellgästernas miljöattityd och beteende på Hotel Astor

Abstract

Syftet med mitt lärdomsprov är att undersöka hotell Astors hotellgästers attityder gentemot miljön och deras beteende både när de bor på hotellet och hemma. Dessutom strävar lärdomsprovet efter att ta reda på om demografiska faktorer har någon inverkan på attityderna gentemot miljön och på miljöbeteendet samt att undersöka miljöbeteendet hemma och på hotellet. I inledningen presenteras hållbar utveckling och hållbar turism. I teoridelen presenteras Suzanne Thompsons och Michelle Bartons teorier om det ekocentriska och antropocentriska miljötänkandet. I den empiriska delen undersöks med hjälp av Hotell Astors hotellgäster en kvantitativ undersökning. En kvantitativ undersökning gjordes på hotellgäster. Undersökningen kompletterades med kvalitativa öppna frågor och en analys gjorde också på dem. Resultatet visar en liten skillnad på att en individs miljöattityd påverkar deras miljövänliga beteende. Oberoende hur en person tänker gentemot miljön så beter man sig likadant. Den förväntade korrelationen mellan utbildning och val av hotell finns inte. Hypotesen om att kvinnors attityd gentemot miljön skulle vara mera miljövänligare än mäns förkastas. Kvinnor beter sig med en liten marginell skillnad bättre än män när de bor på hotell. Det fanns en signifikant skillnad mellan mäns och kvinnors beteende i vardagen

The aim of the final project is to find out what attitude the guests at Astor Hotel/Hotel Astor have towards the environment and how they act when they stay at the hotel as well as when they are at home. Furthermore, this final project aims at finding out whether demographic factors have any influence upon the attitudes towards the environment and upon environmental behaviours. The environmental behaviours at home and at the hotel are also part of the research. Sustainable development and sustainable tourism are presented in the introduction. In the theory part Suzanne Thompson’s and Michelle Barton’s theories about ecocentric and anthropocentric attitudes towards the environment are presented. In the empirical part a quantitative survey was conducted with the help of the guests at Astor Hotel. The quantitative survey was conducted on the hotel guests. The survey was complemented with qualitative open questions and the answers to these were also analysed. The result shows that a person’s attitude towards the environment only affects his/her environmental behaviours to a small extent. Regardless of how people feel about environmental issues, there are no differences in their behaviour. The expected correlation between education and choice of hotel was non-existent. The hypothesis according to which women’s attitudes towards the environment would be more positive than men’s attitudes is rejected. There was only a marginal difference between women and men when staying at a hotel with women tending to behave somewhat better than men. There was, however, a significant difference between men’s and women’s everyday behaviour.
