This thesis was commissioned by Avarn Security Oy. The purpose was to develop and modernize the information technology infrastructure while merging and migrating users, workstations and servers from several domains into one main domain. The goal was to achieve a state where IT-environment is stable, standardized and efficiently managed.
During the last couple of years Avarn Security had gone through numerous company acquisitions. During the business merges IT-functions were not migrated properly and the IT-environment was in a state of becoming seriously complex and extremely hard to manage. The situation was not cost effective either.
The project concentrated on migrating the domains together. This included all users and workstation as well as servers. The IT-infrastructure was also modernized apart from very complex network, which was left out of the scope of this thesis.
As a result of the thesis the infrastructure was modernized to correspond best practises, processes and standards. Users and workstations were migrated mainly into one domain. Due to nature of the business of the company some users were left to their original domains. Upon the completion of this thesis the infrastructure was advanced to a level where next steps could be taken.
