Abstract

Starting a new business can be overwhelming and confusing if you do not know where to start. However, in most cases, a business plan is a good starting point if you still want to evaluate the feasibility of your business idea from multiple perspectives from financial, marketing, positioning, and competitiveness. This business plan aims to study the current food industry in Vaasa and realize the possibility of starting a new food truck. The paper first analyzes what is a business plan and why is it important to have a business plan. Afterward, the author talks about ways to improve the chance of success of the business idea by leveraging human, social, financial capital as well as innovation. Vaasa food industry is then briefly recapped to provide readers with a basic overview of the competition in the area. Lastly, the author writes a business plan about the food truck idea – with insight from Vaasa city officials and VASEK advisors. A quantitative survey was done to get real, practical data from Vaasa residents on the idea and the overall dine out experience in the city. It is used to recognize the pitfalls of competition where the author’s food establishment can capitalize upon. The research shows a bright outlook of the idea and that it can be well-received if all the premises are met.
