Sähköisestä portaasta luotiin kolme eri konseptia, joista paras valittiin yksityiskohtaisen suunnittelun vaiheeseen. This thesis was done for a customer of Huld Oy, a company that provides design services for customers all around Finland. The topic of the product development project was to design a 3D prototype of electric stairs on a forest machine. It will displace the current hydraulic version. The goal was to learn the profession of a mechanical designer and design the best possible product for the customer.
The topic originated with a need of a forest machine driver wanting to use stairs while the engine was shut off. Currently the forest machine uses hydraulic pressure from the engine to raise and lower the stairs. These stairs must be left up during transport, which means that the driver needs to descend from a high point without stairs. The electric stairs improve safety and make working with the machine easier, as the stairs then move without having to turn on the engine first. This work covered all the different stages of design work, 3D modeling, component selection and the creation of manufacturing drawings. Manufacturing, assembly and testing of the parts are excluded from this thesis.
Three different concepts of electrical stairs were created during the first half of this project and the best option was chosen for the detail design phase. Linear actuator was the best option because it met all the client’s requirements, and its installation doesn’t require major modifications to the forest machine. The hydraulic cylinder was replaced with this linear actuator in the 3D-model of the forest machine, and manufacturing drawings were crated for all new and modified components. The FEM-module of Solidworks-software was used for strength tests
